Have you noticed a “pins and needles” feeling in your hands, fingers, or feet? Are you struggling with muscle weakness or problems with balance? There’s a chance you may have developed some type of peripheral neuropathy, a set of conditions that involve damage to your nerves.

Your nervous system was the original “information superhighway.” This vast network of nerves carries signals from your brain to the rest of your body. Nerves let your muscles know when to move and contract, allow you to feel physical sensations, and help your organs function properly.

Peripheral neuropathy occurs when something disrupts those messages, which can have a rippling effect on your entire body. There are many reasons someone might develop peripheral neuropathy, and the effects can vary based on which nerves are affected.

Physical therapy at Nu Life Medical is essential in helping people manage many common symptoms of peripheral neuropathies, such as reduced muscle strength and impaired balance. We’ll work closely with you and other care team members to provide a personalized treatment plan that helps you find relief.

Signs, Symptoms, and Causes
of Peripheral Neuropathy

Experts generally divide nerves into three categories based on their role in the body.

Most neuropathies will affect all three to some extent, although some will affect one or two.
For this reason, your exact symptoms may vary.

Motor Nerves

Control muscle movement and help you perform activities like walking or grasping objects.

Sensory Nerves

Transmit sensations, such as pain from a cut or hot and cold temperatures.

Autonomic Nerves

Regulate your body’s automatic functions, like breathing or digesting food.

Some Of The Main Things To Look Out For:

People with Peripheral Neuropathy generally describe the pain as stabbing, electrical-like, sharp, prickling, pins & needles, or tingling, leading to a hassle on their daily living activities overall a negative impact on life. Our treatment is dedicated to addressing these symptoms with a high success rate, and improving these common symptoms of Peripheral Neuropathy are often the first improvements seen by our patients.

Many people have forgotten how the bottom of their feet or shoes feels or have even stopped walking barefoot. Numbness or the loss of our protective sensation can be extremely dangerous and can lead to injuries, accidents, and even disorientation and falls.

Many individuals do not realize that Diabetic or Peripheral Neuropathy may lead to discoloration of their skin in their extremities due to underlying circulation problems, ultimately leading to infections and even amputations over time. These are severe and debilitating long-term symptoms of Neuropathy that can be reversed. Our patients at DFW Neuropathy have had a successful and consistent real-life reversal of their rashes, ulcers, and wounds with our treatment and supportive care over time.

Besides the pain and unusual sensations (Paraesthesia) associated with Peripheral Neuropathy in the arms, hands, legs, or feet, burning and throbbing may also occur and often disturb daily living activities sleep. These symptoms often arise from the common underlying etiologies, such as circulation problems that ultimately lead to Peripheral Neuropathy and its symptoms. Many physicians attempt to mask these symptoms that worsen their Neuropathy condition over time. Our treatment has a high success rate to stop this entirely and focus on healing, which directly addresses the patient’s symptoms while eliminating pain, improving overall sleep and quality of life.

Walking with a disoriented motion, losing your balance, and falling are common and dangerous symptoms of Neuropathy. Our treatment can reverse these symptoms and regain sensation in your legs and feet. Over time, patients often leave our office walking better and with more control of their feet, including safely driving once again and not requiring canes, walkers, or wheelchairs for ambulation.

If your autonomic nerves are affected, you may have additional symptoms, such as heat intolerance or problems with your bladder, bowels, or digestion.

Understanding Which Type Of Neuropathy You Have Will Help You Find The Right Course Of Treatment:

Occurs when a nerve becomes entrapped by a structure in the body, leading to pain, numbness, and tingling in the affected body part. Carpal tunnel syndrome is one of the most well-known examples, but it’s not the only one!

Occurs when the nerve roots in the base of the spine become compressed, leading to symptoms throughout the lower back, hips, and legs.

Chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy (CIPN) is a form of nerve damage that can occur as a side effect of cancer treatment. Symptoms may include pain, numbness, or tingling in the hands and feet. At Nu Life Medical, we provide comprehensive care for individuals experiencing CIPN, offering non-invasive treatments to alleviate symptoms and improve quality of life during and after cancer treatment.

Any damage to the nerves can cause neuropathies.

Diabetic neuropathy is a type of nerve damage that occurs in individuals with diabetes. High blood sugar levels can injure nerves, leading to symptoms such as pain or numbness in the legs and feet. This condition affects approximately 50% of individuals with type 2 diabetes. At Nu Life Medical, we offer specialized treatment approaches tailored to managing diabetic neuropathy symptoms and improving overall nerve health.

An autoimmune condition in which the immune system attacks your body’s nerves.

I had no problem making my appointments, and they joke with you also. Very great bedside manner. Thank you ladies stars

Today was the last of 5 injections at the clinic. I was a little skeptical when I first came in for the initial injection, but after 4 of them I could feel the difference. I’m not experiencing the pain that I once had. Wendy was great with the procedure and I had no pain from the injection. Jeanette was fun to work with in preparation for the procedure. Please forgive me for forgetting the receptionist name, but she’s been fantastic. I look to my 3 month check up and I think it will be great. Thank you all stars

We had our consultation and the staff was great. The practitioner answered all my questions and laid out the next steps. I have not received any shots yet because they are checking with my insurance but I do believe that this team here in Berkley (the one off Southfield Rd) are qualified and ethical people. I look forward to the next steps. stars

I went to the office for my free consultation due to constant left knee pain. After walking I would need to sit, elevate my leg, use a rub and heating pad along with my Motrin and or Tylenol. After my first visit, at the Flint office, I was shocked at how much less pain I had. I have now completed my 5 injections, use my brace as instructed and have almost no pain. We walk about 3 miles, I walk steps without pain. stars
